So, it gives us the opportunity to discover the big city through the eyes of a Jock!

His ex-wife and his daughter live in London now, which will make him lead a side enquiry about his daughter's boy friend...

But he's there for the "Wolfman" who kills women and leaves on them the trace of his teeth... hence the wolfman.
The killer is so clever that they have really nothing at first... It's by provoking his reaction that they finally receive a letter which is going to lead Rebus to the right person...who nobody would have thought of, as he was so respectable!
But as reader, we know what this murderer has been through in his childhood, and Rebus will probably never know..
