The Forget-Me-Not Summer by Katie Flynn

In 1936 in Liverpool, when Miranda wakes up in the morning, her mother has disappeared, and for years, she'll be looking for her. Having no other family than her aunt Vi and her cousin Beth, she goes and live with them in Jamaica close. Why Jamaica, when no other street around wears a country name? And why is there this enormous wall at the end of the close?

Steve, who lives a few houses from hers becomes her friend, and they will both discover that Manchester used to be a turning point for slavery, hence the name, and they'll find Jamaica House, where a "ghost" who had frightened them is not a ghost...

They find some new friends, enjoy their life even though it's not all roses, but war arrives and they enter the RAF.

Love story, friendship story and a series of characters and actions that make you read it with a great pleasure, especially as the life and customs of the Liverpudlians before and during the war are described in a very lively manner.
