A seaside resort near Sydney. A school, and the parents of the children.

Upper middle class.

On the first day of the kindergarten orientation, three women meet, and become friends.

Madeline, who divorced many years ago, but is still resentful of the abandon by her husband. Although she has a new family and a very nice husband, she can't pardon, and her former husband now lives here, with his new wife and their kid who is entering the same school as her daughter.

So they have complicated relationships.

There's Celeste who is extremely beautiful, has two boys, twins, and a husband who is almost never there, as he works a lot and earns a lot.

But her life is not a bed of roses, as sometimes, her husband gets mad and hits her.

The third one, Jane, has a son, Ziggy, and she got pregnant on a night she can't forget, as she had been more bullied than anything else.

And on this first day, Ziggy is accused of bullying a little girl. Although he never admitted doing it, the mothers of the other children want to keep him away from the school.

And all along the book, we learn that something terrible happened on trivia night, but we'll only know what at the end of the book.

Brilliant. Once you've started it, you can't stop reading.
