Julie and Julia by Nora Ephron
Food lovers, don't resist! Go and see it!
In fact, it's the story of two happy marriages, one just after the war, mostly in Paris, and the other one in New York, in 2003.
The link? Cooking, and a book, written by Julia Child, as well as her programmes on TV.
For 365 days, the young Julie is going to wrtie a blog about the food she makes, following the recipes given by Julia Child in her book, and at the same time, we follow the circumstances in which Julia Child wrote the book.
Meryl Streep is perfect, as usual, and she expresses her love of French food and cooking so well, sometimes, you have the feeling she's going to explode! Seeing her cooking is pure joy.
And Stanley Tucci is elegant, refined, clever, as her husband.
The only problem is that Amy Adams doesn't look so overwhelmed by food.. She never tastes it, and the only time she bites in something, it's a raw carrot...
But the way she pronounces Boeuf bourguignon is really cute.. she pronounces "bouffe" which means food in slang. Unfortunately, she puts a Bordeaux wine in the bourguignon, which, as the name says it, should be made with a burgundy wine!!!! Damned!
Altogether, a nice film, with a litlle regret, that the casting makes you think of "The Devil dresses in Prada..."And for Parisians, a funny moment, as the first French restaurant where Julia child is supposed to discover French cooking, is an English Pub, The Bombardier... But in the film, you only see the outside, with a sign saying French cooking...The scene inside was probably shot in a studio!
And several times, you see this part of Paris appear, around The Pantheon, and some scenes have been shot in the same places as "the Devil dresses in Prada..." For Americans, Paris is a very small place...
